David Basto

David Basto is a Managing Director, Partner, and a member of the Consumer, Media and Retail team. He is based in New York.

Since joining Carlyle, Mr. Basto has led or been a key contributor to a number Carlyle investments in the consumer sector, including Compana Pet Brands, Every Man Jack, PurposeBuilt Brands, and Arctic Glacier. 

Prior to joining Carlyle, Mr. Basto was a Founding Partner of Broad Sky Partners, a sector-focused private equity firm. Prior to co-founding Broad Sky Partners, Mr. Basto worked for MidOcean Partners from its inception, most recently as Managing Director and Co-Head of MidOcean’s consumer sector investing team. Prior to MidOcean, Mr. Basto worked for DB Capital Partners, the merchant banking division of Deutsche Bank, and its predecessor BT Capital Partners. Previously, Mr. Basto worked in investment banking, focused on mergers & acquisitions. 

Mr. Basto serves as a director on the boards of Compana Pet Brands, Every Man Jack, and Arctic Glacier. Mr. Basto also serves on the board of directors of FreshPet, Inc. (NASDAQ: FRPT). 

Mr. Basto received his B.A. from University of Virginia.
